Fortune has reported that AT&T will cut the price of the 3G Apple iPhone, bringing the price down to $199 for customers who sign two-year contracts. FYI, Apple is expected to offer two variants of handset, the 8-gigabyte-memory and a 16-gigabyte-memory model with price tags of $399 and $499 respectively. Apple also has planned to stop supplies of the older model iPhone. The new 3G iPhone will be 2.5 mm thinner than the 11.7 mm original and will have a GPS chip for navigation. [Fortune]

According to rumors, the new iPhone is in a field test now. The new 3G Apple iPhone supports a built in GPS and 3G connectivity. The casing is slightly thicker and features a full black glossy design at its back. The second generation iPhone will be announced officially in July 2008. [Slashphone]

Here are some drawings which are made with Photoshop based on a device described in a recent Apple’s patent application, called “Dual sided trackpad“. It looks like the company will release a clamshell iPhone in the near future.
