Samsung SGH-i718 - Chinese Smartphone

At the ITU Telecom World expo holding in Hong Kong, Samsung introduced the SGH-i718. This new baby from Samsung is equipped with Windows Mobile 5.0 PPC Phone Edition, 2.0MP shooter with auto focus, supports most video and audio file formats, and has micro SD slot.

The phone also features business card reader, digital power amplifier, MS Office View and Edit, handfree speaker handwriting and Chinese voice recognition, Bluetooth connectivity, “VibTonz”, and real voice dictionary.

Sadly, Samsung has not planned to release this phone outside of China. No word yet on pricing. Let’s check out two more pics after the jump!

Samsung’s New Ultra Series for Music, Video, and Messaging

Samsung's New Ultra Series for Music, Video, and Messaging

Samsung hits ITU Telecom World 2006 opening day today in Hong Kong with their Ultra series of cellphones, including the Ultra Music’s F300, the Ultra Video’s F500, and the Ultra Messaging’s i600 smartphone.

The Ultra Music F300 features a screen on the front, a conventional candy bar phone keypad on the other side, a built-in Bang & Olufsen-designed digital amplifier, a 2MP shooter, and a miniSD slot for 2GB more storage.

The F500 is the expert in video playback since it supports DivX (Digital Internet Video Express) codec and some video files including MPEG4, H.264, WMV and AVI formats. This phone is the first cellphone that can play DivX movies. Other features include its 2.4-inch swiveling screen, 400MB of internal memory or up to 2GB on a microSD card, and a 2MP digital camera.

Another member of the Ultra line is the Ultra Messaging i600, which is an HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) smartphone running Windows Mobile 5.0. The phone features QWERTY keypad, and supports push e-mail and various web applications such as Podcasting, RSS Reader and Google Talk. You can use its secondary camera on the front for the video conference. The i600 is touted as the world’s slimmest messaging phone.

O2 Xda Zinc Will Be Released in January

Here is good news for all you O2 fans. The much anticipated O2 Zinc will be released in January. For now, this smartphone will only be available to our British friends.

FYI, the O2 XDA Zinc is a tri-band GSM handset that supports 3G connectivity and is a Windows Powered Smartphone. It is powered by the Intel PXA270 520MHz processor and is equipped with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 2MP shooter, Bluetooth 2.0, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and all the Microsoft Mobile Applications. No word yet on pricing.

Nokia 6290 3G Smartphone

Nokia 6290 3G Smartphone

Nokia announced the Nokia 6290, its latest 3G cell phone based on the S60 3rd Edition (Symbian) platform. Touted as a mid-range 3G phone, the phone features a 2.2 inch QVGA color screen capable of displaying 16 million colors, a 2MP camera with 4X digital zoom and MP3 player. The bundled email client comes with an attachment viewer that can handle PPT, PDF, Word and Excel documents. This smartphone also allows you to set up multiple alarms and an interactive world travel application. And there is one more thing that you should know. Using this handset, you can also enjoy 2-way video calling on the phone via the internet.

Nokia claims the 6290’s battery has a talk time of 3.5 hours and standby time of 10 days. The handset will start shipping in Q1 2007 for an estimated price of US$427.
