Purple Magic Cell phone

Here are some photos of the new Linux phone called Purple Magic. The Purple Magic comes with 3G capabilities along with some multimedia functions. This phone is being marketed to Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. The phone will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. Google

Looks like Google is cooking up a Linux-based phone for launch in Q1 2008. After much talk over tech specs with manufacturers (including LG Electronics), Google is engaging with Taiwan’s High Tech Computer (HTC) Corp to design and manufacture the final phone. The Wall Street Journals reported that Google has spent hundreds of millions of dollars in this project and has courted US and European mobile operators. It’s interesting to see how this develops, considering it’s due time Google kicks Apple’s ass off the cell phone market! ;-)

Ubuntu Linux Running On Sony Ericsson P990i Phone

Someone at YouTube shows us the Sony Ericsson P990i phone which uses a copy of Ubuntu Linux as its operating system. FYI, the smartphone features a 240 x 320 TFT touchscreen display, 2.0MP shooter, 64MB RAM, 128MB Flash memory, 60MB built-in memory, 802.11b Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a music player, and USB 2.0 connectivity.
