World's Cheapest Mobile Phone at $14 Each

The Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has confirmed the launch of the world’s cheapest phone. Dubbed as the El Vergatario, the phone will feature an MP3 Player, an FM player, and a camera. Priced at approx. $14, the phone will be made at the Venezuelan Telecommunications Factory which is a joint venture between the state, and the Chinese manufacturer ZTE, splitting 85% for state and 15% for ZTE. Rogers of Canada will launch two rugged handsets later this month. The Samsung Rugby A836 is already available via AT&T. Meanwhile, the ZTE Rock F165 is a candybar handset that offers an external antenna, GSM/HSDPA connectivity, a 176 x 220 resolution display and a 2MP shooter. Telus offers the ZTE TXTster that is specially built for SMS lovers. The handset features a Fastap keypad and eZiType word prediction, that allows you to compose text messages in double quick time. The handset features a 1.3 megapixel camera, EV-DO connectivity, an internal 220 × 176 resolution 262k colors display and an external 96 × 64 resolution 65k colors display. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity, GPS navigation and a microSD memory card slot.

ZTE Wants To Be Top-5 Mobile Phone Manufacturer

ZTE wants to become the world’s fifth largest mobile manufacturer. For your info, the company is currently 6th and is China’s number one cellphone manufacturer. ZTE has targeted to sell 100 million units for 2010 which should push the company to No 5 in the world. Its main competitor is China’s Huawei, which was targeted 50 million units next year.
