ZTE has introduced their latest slider phone ‘ZTE Smooth’ during this year’s Mobile World Congress. This entry-level handset is equipped with a 2.8-inch QVGA display, a full QWERTY keyboard, an FM radio, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and runs on Android Donut OS. The FCC has recently approved a new unannounced ZTE phone, namely the ZTE X990. The phone features a QWERTY keypad, a landscape display, Bluetooth, an MP3 player, an FM radio, a Web browser with a dedicated key, a 2MP camera, a MicroSD card slot and a 3.5mm headset jack. The ZTE X990 supports only GSM/GPRS connectivity, so it will probably be released in China for an affordable price. We will keep you posted. [UnwiredView]

The Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has confirmed the launch of the world’s cheapest phone. Dubbed as the El Vergatario, the phone will feature an MP3 Player, an FM player, and a camera. Priced at approx. $14, the phone will be made at the Venezuelan Telecommunications Factory which is a joint venture between the state, and the Chinese manufacturer ZTE, splitting 85% for state and 15% for ZTE. Digicel and ZTE has worked together to release their new eco-friendly handset in the form of the Coral-200-Solar. This solar-powered phone will be available in selected market in June 2009. Unfortunately, there is no info on the specs so far. We will keep you posted. [Slashphone]

Rogers of Canada will launch two rugged handsets later this month. The Samsung Rugby A836 is already available via AT&T. Meanwhile, the ZTE Rock F165 is a candybar handset that offers an external antenna, GSM/HSDPA connectivity, a 176 x 220 resolution display and a 2MP shooter. The Samsung Rugby retails for $149.99 with a 3-year contract, while the ZTE Rock is priced at $79.99 with a similar agreement. [UnWiredView] More
